Horses & Riding
You want your child to have a fun and exciting camp experience that you can feel comfortable about as well. Conestogo River Horseback Adventures pleases both parents and kids with a fun-filled daily itinerary and a dedication to safety.

Days are organized to give children a well-rounded equine education that includes hands-on horse care, stable activities and English and Western riding. Our counselors are experienced in teaching children the joy of learning in a safe environment that emphasizes cooperation and respect. Our head riding instructors are accomplished riders and teachers, and have years of experience in the equine field.

Daily riding is a favourite part of each camper's experience. Children receive individual attention aimed at their personal ability level, and also participate in group rides where they learn by watching and helping others. During horseback riding, staff to camper ratio is 1:5, to allow for individual attention and instruction. As well as one hour of riding each day, campers groom and saddle their own horse each day, to allow for more bonding time with their equine friend. Horse theory is also taught daily, with topics such as what horses eat, how to tell if a horse is sick, and how to look after your own horse.

The staff at Conestogo River Horseback Adventures will show your child the unique and beautiful relationship between horse and rider. We strive to give children the confidence and self-esteem that comes from riding and handling horses and ponies with thoughtfulness and respect.
Other activities
To complement our schedule of horsemanship and riding lessons, children will be given the opportunity to express themselves creatively through arts & crafts time, and will enjoy games, scavenger hunts and nature hikes as a chance to just relax.

« Crafts are a much loved part of every day, and range from friendship bracelets to share with new camp friends, photo frames with a picture of your favourite horse, stamps, fun foam, leather crafts, the sky is the limit! Supplies are included in the camp fee.
« Game days feature both on and off horse games to keep children interested and entertained. Children participate in games such as Red Light, Green Light and obstacle courses that get more challenging as the week goes on.
Safety!
Any person under the age of 18 is not permitted on a horse without proper certified headgear! Helmets are provided by Conestogo River Horseback Adventures, but children must supply their own footwear with a 1/2 to 1 inch heel like a hiking boot or rubber boot, and proper riding pants or jeans for riding. No sandals please! Only closed-toe footwear permitted to protect little feet! Children are never left unsupervised with horses and precautions are taken to make sure everyone has fun without getting hurt!
Volunteer Opportunities

We're always looking for volunteers to help us out around the farm and especially with camp. Duties would include helping the children groom and tack their horses and assisting the instructor during camp lessons. You must be 15 years old or older and have some experience handling horses.
Don't have any horse experience but want to learn? We also need volunteers to help with other camp activities and other farm chores.
